When a reader contacted me about summer programs for school-age kids in the area, I thought, that’s a great idea! But to be honest, I had no idea what was offered in the area since my oldest is only 4. So where did I go to find the information? YOU, the readers of Go Valley Kids! Thank you to everyone who contributed their ideas on the Facebook page.
With snow still covering the ground and temperatures in the teens, it’s hard to imagine what a Wisconsin summer feels like. But believe it or not, many organizations are registering for their summer programs for the 2013 season. In fact, the very-popular YMCA is starting registration on January 7 for many locations. The following is a list of summer programs in the area. When applicable, I have included feedback from readers who have posted on the Facebook page. Please follow the links to find more information regarding the programs.
Operation Recreation – Neenah Park and Recreation.
Housed on the Neenah Brigade, this is an all-day program that is flexible. Participants only have to register a week ahead of time, so you don’t have to pay for time you don’t need to use. This is what a mom has to say, ” We love it! They spend most of the day outside. 1 day a week they go to the library, 1 day the neenah pool, and 1 day a field trip. The staff is great, they keep the kids busy all day.” For more information, please go to their website.
Playground Program – Appleton Parks and Recreation.

There are special events planned during the summer. These include the A Night at the Oscars/Ice Cream Social, Mead Pool Play Day/Splash n’ Dash Swim Meet, Playground Fair, Breakfast in the Park, Dodgeball Tournament and much, much more!!
